I
enjoyed a fabulous trip to Mandarmani which is resort village in the seaside in West Bengal India.
It comes under the district of East Midnapore. It is at the northern side of Bay of Bengal. I enjoyed this seaside
resort which is the largest in West Bengal. I heard from the guide that it is fast-developing.
I asked the guide about the distance and he told me that it is 180 km
from Calcutta. I found red crabs are crawling over the beach. The length of
beach is 13 km. It is a major attraction of Mandarmani sea beach. The
beach is driveable and it comes under Sub
division area of Contai.
I
found low waves of water compared to Digha sea beach. I observed neo dunes particularly
in Dadanpatrabar area.
Mandarboni is the original name of the beach. It was also known
as Mandar Mani. Gradually, this beach came to be known as Mandarmani.
I reached Mandarmani by road. I observed that police had made a
restriction of private cars in the beach. A road has been created for reaching
the hotels. I observed Contai is the railway station in the vicinity. There is
another railway station named Ashapurna Devi railway station. Kolkata is the
nearest airport. You can get buses half hourly basis starting from 7 am and the
last bus is at 6 pm.
I started from Kolkata and then took the Vidyasagar Setu. I choose
the Kona Expressway and this road connects to the Mumbai Road. I went for a drive
and it consumed 3.5 to 4 hours from Kolkata. I went through Kolaghat and also Nandakumar.
I took a right turn from Nandakumar and went to Contai. There is a highway of Kolkata-
Digha and I had stopped at the bus stop named Chawalkhola. I took the road on
the left hand side. It is a village road and the end of this road is
Mandarmani. I discovered that it is actually a village at the sea-side. I came
across two toll plazas and they are Sonapetya and Dhulagori.
I found that Mandarmani did not get a railway station. If you
want to come by train, you have to go to Contai which is 17 kms away. There is
railway station at Digha which is 30 km away. They have been connected properly
with primary cities. I got buses and cabs from the railway stations for reaching
Mandarmani.
I found beach to be the major attraction. I found the tourists having
a great time in the sea beach. It starts with early morning till late
afternoon. I observed the tourists as they come out of their resorts around 3
PM and ride the beach bike or the ropeway. I found a number of shops nearby
which are selling shells along with handicrafts and handmade jewellery. I went
to the mohana or Estuary at the time of sunset.
