The leader of the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi opined that this is an advanced system of surveillance. He had talked about the important concerns of privacy and data security. The app has been started in April. Aarogya Setu app has been modern surveillance system and this has been outsourced from an operator in the private sector. The institutional oversight is not found. The technology will assist in maintaining safety. There should not be any fear about tracking the movement of citizens without their permission. Rahul Gandhi had claimed in the Twitter.
Aarogya Setu acquires data in that location of a particular user and makes cross-reference with databse of the Central government for following user had came in touch with a person infected by Corona Virus.
On Friday, the center had made a compulsory declaration for the private and government sector employees for utilizing the mobile application named Aarogya Setu. The app asks the user to maintain the GPS and Bluetooth Location sharing on every time.
If two phones get in touch in a particular range, then the GPS location and Bluetooth along with the details of digital of the counterpart get stored in the region. When the user of phone tests positive for COVID-19, most of the information are cross-referenced using the person who is close proximity. It has been pointed by the GPS and digital ID information.
There are many NGOs who is raising security concerns in application.
Internet Freedom Foundation said country does not have the right law for data protection.
The application is not useful for non-smartphone users having low-income.
